Well, I decided to start a blog. I have always loved to write, so here I am, jumping in head-first. I started decorating cookies about a month ago, and expected, like so many other things in my life, that it would seem fun once or twice, then I would get tired of it. Or, more likely, my first batch would look like I should compete on Nailed It!, but to my surprise, I actually love it!.
They are not perfect, by any means, but here is what mattered: I HAD FUN! Yep, it brought me joy. And thanks to Marie Kondo and Emily Gilmore for making that phrase part of my vernacular, because that is what this was all about. In my crazy life of kids and teaching and baseball games and gymnastics and parent conferences and open houses, I needed some pure, unweighted joy. And this was it!
This has been a learning experience from cookie recipes to icing recipes. And yes, the icing to water ratio has kept me up at night, but I get a little more confident with every batch. Here are the cookies I brought to a family friendly tailgate today. I love all things fall, so these are pretty traditional Halloween and fall themes, but I thought they turned out well. The bats were inspired by The bearfoot baker, although she recommends using candy eyes and teeth and I decided to get brave and try my own using toothpicks for precision.
Even more intimidating than these cookies, though, was the technology piece. I mean, give me Google Docs or Slides, and I am golden, but a blog? That seems complicated. I decided to go with WordPress for the blog, because it is all in one place, and that seemed like something I could handle. So far, they have been great, and I am learning a little bit every day!
We will see where this little adventure takes me! I have an Instagram account for alwaysbringcookies, but I don’t know how to link that yet. I am adventuring all over the place, here! Thanks for reading! -K
